Almost every couple hits this fork, and almost nobody has good information at it. One friend swears the band made the night. Another swears the band played four songs anybody wanted and then took a twenty minute break during the peak of the dancing. Both are telling the truth about the wedding they went to.
Meanwhile the quotes make no sense. A DJ quote and a band quote can be separated by thousands of dollars, and nothing in either quote explains what accounts for the gap: how many hours, how many performers, ceremony coverage, cocktail hour, gear, lighting, MC duties, travel, overtime. You are comparing two prices that are not describing the same product.
Then there is the booking itself. Wedding entertainment is a deposit-heavy business booked six to twelve months out, and the horror stories all rhyme: a deposit sent to a stranger, a vendor who stops replying in month four, or a band whose lineup quietly changed between the demo video and the actual reception.
